Saturday, August 14, 2010 - 7:30 PM Ravinia - Annie Get Your Gun |
For the 150th anniversary of Annie Oakley’s birth, Patti LuPone tackles an iconic Ethel Merman role at Ravinia, playing fast and loose with gunpowder and love in Irving Berlin’s bigger-than-life musical about the fabled sharp-shooter. |
Dubbed “the last leading man” by the New York Times, Brian Stokes Mitchell joins LuPone to play her sentimental husband Frank Butler. The hit-stuffed score is performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and includes “Doin’ What Comes Naturally,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better,” “You Can’t Get a Man with a Gun” and “They Say It’s Wonderful.”
The performance begins at 7:30 PM, but the gates open at 5:00 PM. Picnicking and partaking of the spirits of your choice is part of the fun of Ravinia. The sooner you arrive the sooner you can join in on the fun as we gather for a group picnic. Bring a lawn chair, your own picnic meal and beverage, plus a side dish to share. WSGA has a limited number of lawn tickets for sale at $20. (This saves you the $7 online order “convenience” fee). Refer to your newsletter for contact information.
